Biography

Aurore Ugolin, Mezzo soprano studied singing in the United States (Montclair State University) and at the Paris National Conservatory where she obtains a Master degree.

Soon after graduating in Paris, she sang one of her signature roles, which took her on the biggest opera stages: Dido from Dido and Aeneas by Purcell in the staging of Sasha Waltz, production which was created at the Staatsoper in Berlin in 2005 (DVD Arthaus Musik). This production broadcasted by ARTE and ZDF received the prestigious price "Jahrespreis des Deutschen Schallplattenkrtitik" .Since then, she took over this role in all the revivals of the production, in France, in Europe, in South America (Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires) , Israël (Tel Aviv) and in Australia (Sydney).

She sang the role of Carmen in Erfurt, Nice and Antibes, Amneris from Aida, the Trommler from Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullmann (Caen and Luxembourg), the solo mezzo-soprano in Hydrogen Jukebox by Philip Glass (Angers and Nantes). She was heard in the double-bill Trouble in Tahiti by Bernstein, Dinah and L’Enfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel (Nancy and Caen). She sang Lucienne from Die Tote Stadt (Nancy) and Margaret from Wozzeck (Avignon, Reims, Rouen and Limoges). She also sang Mercedes from Carmen (Toulon, Montpellier), Dorabella from Cosi fan tutte (Corsica) , Rosina from il Barbiere di siviglia (on tour in France), Wowkle from la Fanciulla del West (Limoges), Zulma from l'italiana in Algeri (Montpellier), Mallika from Lakmé (Toulon), Anna from Marie Stuart by Lavello (Hardelot Festival), The Third Water Nymph from Rusalka (Tours).
She has worked with many famous conductors: Kurt Masur, Alain Altinoglu, Friedmann Layer, Attilio Cremonesi, Chris Moulds, David Reiland, Kaspar Zehnder...

Very interested in contemporary music, she took part in the world premieres of several operas such as Maraina and Chin by Jean-Claude Trulès, Libre Echange by Benjamin Hamon, as well as music theatre pieces like La Maison qui chante by Betsy Jolas, Courte Longue Vie au Grand Petit Roi by Alexandros Markeas and took part (as a singer) in Jean-Michel Ribes' theatrical play : Par-delà les marronniers at the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris and on tour.

In the concert field, she sang under the baton of Kurt Masur in Bach st John's Passion in Paris, she took part in ‘La Folle Journée de Nantes’ (program Debussy and De Falla), she sang Schubert's A flat major Mass in Avignon, Haendel’s Messiah at the Festival Sinfonia in Périgord and gave recitals at the French Academy in Rome. She regularly sings with the Paris Mozart Orchestra conducted by Claire Gibault. She is a part of the Trio Schneeweiss (together with viola player Caroline Donin and pianist Olivier Yvrard).

During season 2017-2018, she sings Fenena from Nabucco in Montpellier, the takes over the role of Dido from Sasha Waltz's staging of Dido and Aeneas in Asia, she sings a series of Verdi Requiem in Saint-Etienne, a staged Stabat Mater by Pergolesi with the Ensemble "Les Nouveaux Caractères" on tour in France, Carmen in Belgium (Festival de Hulencourt)

Aurore Ugolin was awarded the title of "Révélation classique de l'ADAMI 2006"
